Centaurus was the result of Ixion, the king of Lapithe, having a mistaken relation with a cloud. The cloud had been created by Zeus in the likeness of Hera, to foil a planned rendezvous by her and Ixion. Centaurus was to become the father of the Centaurs by mating with Magnesian mares. Sometimes the Centaurs are known as Ixionida due to this.

Constellation:[]

Centaurus was believed to be the first to study the stars and map out constellations, and one myth states that he placed his namesake constellation in the sky to help guide his friends the Argonauts. Others say that the Centaurus constellation is meant to represent the form of Chiron.
